Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation & concealer

For a while I had myself down as a bit of a makeup snob. I would only shop from cosmetic counters or online and believed the best of my stash came from investments. However, when decluttering came around I noticed my ol’ reliables were always those from when I was working with a budget and had little pick ups from the drug store.

So, after watching countless of youtubers rave about Rimmels Wake Me Up Foundation and Concealer, I decided to head back to my local Superdrug and try something a little cheaper.

know what you’re thinking – it’s an old product, everyone’s seen, heard, had. But this is my blog, not yours.

Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation Swatch

Wake Me Up Foundation

Whilst in the bottle the liquid itself has slight pearly sheen, when applied to the skin it sets more like a demi-matte, which I love. As a lady with uncontrollable combination skin, most of the time I feel I have to stick with a super matte finish just to keep anything in place, but with a more satin like finish I get the best of both. yesssss!
For a medium to full coverage foundation, it’s also super easy to apply. Not only because the formula is gel like and lightweight, but also the pump is so easy to use! I feel way to many companies aren’t taking too much thought with their packaging – as long as it’s gold for the gram, the function is never really.. functional. Luckily the lid dispenses just the right amount without using too much or too little.

Unfortunately however, Rimmel have made this ultra popular product with a very limited shade range. With only six shades and choosing the lightest golden undertone, it was still way too dark for me.
At £8.99, I’m not complaining too much. I won’t be rushing to restock anytime soon, but I will grab again when I’m busting out a tan.

Wake Me Up Concealer

Behind every great foundation, there’s a concealer. That’s what they say, right? The Wake Me Up Concealer works in the same way as the foundation; brightening, illuminating, fresh looking. Which means it’s perfect for under the eyes. It has significantly less pearl pigment, but what it lacks it makes up for in peptides and vitamin moisturising complex. And because it’s not as reflective, it works perfectly to cover any of my break outs or scarring. Thank. Gawd.

Again, the shade range isn’t that great, but I finally found something that works for myself. Will it replace my love for Collections lasting perfection concealer? Not today, but at £5.49 it’s one I won’t cross off my shopping list just yet.

MAC Christmas make up collection

When it comes to makeup collections, limited editions or celeb collabs, I am unapologetically shameless. If there’s a limited release, no doubt you’ll catch me at 5am, already buzzed from my third red bull, sat amongst the bright lights of all the electronic devices I could grab and screaming at the wifi box.

Nevertheless, this has brought many exciting, sparkly, hard to get prezzies to my door and I can look back in awe and reminisce about old collections. But i have to say, the company that gets me super excited when I see a sneak peak of a release, is my always reliable friend, MAC.

MAC have blessed us with the most incredible products and have managed to bag themselves countless of credited celebs. Some favourites have been the Cinderella collection, Disney Villains, The Osbournes, Star Trek, Charlotte Olympia.. oh I could go for days..And the best thing? The best thing is that you don’t have to have an early morning, coffee induced anxiety attack just to get the bits you want!

Most MAC stores are but a hop, skip and a jump away so they’re never really difficult to get to, but if there isn’t one close you can always check online (shout out to Scotland who literally only have two counters) plus, the online store always gets the new stuff first!

My point is, MAC have really outdone themselves this year. If you were lucky enough to get any of the Magic Of The Night collection last year, you will know it was full of blues and black, which, when buying crimbo presents, may not be your first picks, and the more neutral products vanished in a heartbeat.

This year however, the Nutcracker Sweet collection has me like a child in a candy shop. The packaging is whimsical and pretty, pinks and burgundy and golds, with the classic product colours of reds, coppers and nudes, ranging to wearable purples and brave fuchsia.

It was difficult to remain calm and refrain from buying the whole collection, luckily I had forgot my credit card that day and had to stay ‘somewhat sensible’ with my purchases. urgh. Anyway, here’s what I manged to bag:

two face pallettesSweet Peach and Sweet Copper Face Compacts

Quite frankly it would be an insult not to get both right? Yes kittens, the ultra famous highlighter ‘whisper of guilt’ has come back to grace our faces once more alongside a peachy brown blush shade. Speaking as one of the fairer ladies, The Sweet Copper Compact is a little on the dark side for myself, but it’s not gonna stop me using these beautiful shades as a poppin’ inner corner highlight on my eyes, smokey mauvey browny outer corner.

Sweet nude lip gloss set - MACSweet Nude Lip Gloss Kit

If you’ve been keeping up with my posts, y’all know I’m a lipgloss half virgin. So really it would be an absolute insult to myself not to get the set. They’re a little less than full sized, so easy enough to sling in your handbag and great to take from day to night.  Luckily, all the shades are pure pouty perfection, which includes three cremesheens and a dazzleglass so you can be a seductive, sparkly, glossy angel all year.

MAC Nutcracker Sweet Shop Pigments collection Sweet Bronze and Glitter Pigments

OH Girrrrl, get me started on these! Time and time again I come across fellow makeup lovers who tell me they are scared of pigments??? Yes, they are loose but never let it put you off henny! These shades are so easy to use as highlighters, cheek colours, lip colours. And who doesn’t love a bit of glitter, am i right?! They are beautiful on their own or blended together they are just 👌👌👌 and if that’s not enough, also great products if you haven’t ventured into makeup brush territory yet! An absolute insult to beauty products everywhere if I hadn’t picked these bad boys up.

Vincent Longo Pearl X Eyeshadows

Before being gifted with a couple of colourful round pots, I hadn’t come across Vincent Longo’s cosmetic line before. With trendmood1 constantly buzzing away my iphone battery life, I have been more interested in sneak peaks from ABH or KVD and somehow overlooked the Pearl X Eyeshadows that landed at Cult Beauty a couple of weeks back.

My significant other however, did not.

Shortly after the launch, a very lovely black box came from our very lovely postie, and I found myself the proud owner of shades ‘Etherea’ and ‘Luna Beach’.

Let me tell you, my POC did not disappoint. I can’t say the packaging is particularly breath taking, but the product certainly knocks it out the ball park.
The formula itself is creamy, super pigmented and easy to blend. Having a mixture of matte, shimmer and satin textures makes the outcome mostly pearlescent whilst keeping it soft – unless, you mix it up by throwing some fix+ on your shader brush, which will give you the most metallically brilliant finish.

Both Luna Beach and Etherea are set with three stripes of colour so you can create a an entire look with your own personal preference, but all colours swirl together nicely if (like me) you’re in a bit of a dash.

At last, a time I thought would never come – finding truly great products that put some sexy shape into my miserable, messy mop 💁

I should start by telling you a little bit about my hair – it has seen all colours: fluorescent blues, peacock greens, bellatrix purples and barbie blondes.. It has been bleached, shaved, mohawked and braided (and you thought your teens were awkward) all to the point of falling out and resembling a Draco Malfoy/Macaulay Culkin hybrid. But one thing has always stayed the same – it is very very fine.

Since growing back over the past year or two, my ‘do’ is now in a healthy state after some much needed TLC. I only have to wash my hair once, maybe twice a week, I let it dry naturally whenever I can, and I’m always twirling my hair around with some of Lush’s RnB in the rare occasions I use my GHD curling wand.

Now my hair feels lovely, hydrated and thick. I finally have something I can work with – If i wanted. After using my Philip Kingsley collection I only have to flick my hair back once to have more of a mannerly mane as a opposed to a lifeless lob.

The secret?..

Body BuilderBody Building Shampoo
For fine, limp or flyaway hair types

The main ingredient in keeping every big and bouncy – I wash this through only once, the habit of cleaning my hair twice wasn’t hard to break as you can feel the product work almost instantly. Get massaging this in the roots and you won’t want to stop.

Moisture Balancing Conditioner
For medium textured, wavy hair or chemically processed fine textured hair

My hair right now has been coloured ever so delicately by the talented trimmers down at Andrea and Achilles in Oxford, and whilst it wasn’t anything as harsh as a full on bleach, it’s always good to get any mop moisturised. This has such a silky texture and although the packaging isn’t too fancy, feels like a real luxury treatment.

Maximizes volume, body and bounce. For fine, limp and flyaway hair types

If I had to pick only one of these amazing products, this would be it. I let my hair dry naturally whilst taking roughly ten minutes hours to do my makeup, spray this onto the roots and very gently blow dry on cold for a bit. Once my roots are dry, I can let the rest air dry and still have a decent amount of volume and texture. The best part is the maximizer also doubles up as a heat protecter that doesn’t leave a sticky residue! finally..

If I’m feeling like my hair might need a little pick-me-up, or I’ve backcombed out of control, I will go ahead and also use the Philip Kingsley Elasticizer – one of the first ever pre shampoo condition treatments that helps to give your hair the kick up the backside it needs if you find your ends snapping or mid-lengths drying out too easily.

I have to stress, as much as I would have loved for this to have been an ad.. it’s not. I’m just a loving fan, and if you know of any products I’m missing out on or you’re thinking of trying my technique, let me know! 🌻
